I've started 2015 off right with an apprenticeship in offset printing at Spudnik Press, here in Chicago.
This past Monday was my first session, and it felt good to have ink on my hands again. The ABDick 360 is a far cry from the Heidelberg GTO I printed on for my fellowship with JAB, but it is a beautifully accessible machine, and I can't wait to learn more about it.
Having practiced traditional darkroom pre-press with film and metal plates, I'm excited to use polymer positive plates output on a laser printer and see how I might affordably set up my own press one day soon. Hopefully I will learn a bit about the mechanics and how to maintain the press, which already seems more doable than the German-engineered Heidelberg.
I'm in good hands at Spudnik, and I'm sure I'll have this temperamental little beast figured out in no time!
